Teaching is considered one of the best careers in the United States, especially elementary school teaching, and this is because elementary teachers are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that students have a solid foundation. This solid foundation is fundamental as it is the one that ensures the future success of students. Lack of a solid foundation in elementary school is likely to negatively affect students’ academic performance as they continue to further their education. In her article, Elizabeth Manno states that a career in elementary teaching is a calling and that it is never about money. A majority of elementary teachers in the United States were not driven into this career by money but by a strong desire to impact people’s lives. Despite being one of the best jobs, there is another group of people that strongly refutes this claim. This essay analyses the main benefits of being an elementary school teacher.

Unlike other teaching careers, elementary teaching is regarded as one of the most important. This is because students must first obtain a solid foundation which is usually provided by elementary teachers. It is only after attaining a solid educational foundation that students become ready to face other teachers. As such, elementary teachers are not just teachers but also mentors. According to an article by Sandra Mohr, teachers play an essential role in society, and this is because every moment they walk into a classroom, the lives of many children are changed (Up Journey). Education is always referred to as the key to a successful career. By establishing a strong foundation, elementary teachers empower students to become better citizens with successful careers.

Another element that makes elementary teaching an ideal career is that the teachers also learn alongside the students that they teach. Although most people believe that it is only students that learn, this is not the case, according to Sharon Thomas, an elementary school teacher at Panola Way Elementary School. According to Thomas, teachers, just like students, also learn while teaching. For instance, before walking to any class, teachers always ensure that they are familiar with the topic that they intend to cover for the day. After the end of the lesson, there is still a period where students ask questions. Teachers have to ensure that they are familiar with the topic, as this enables them to respond to any issues that might be raised by the students. According to Thomas, teachers also need to keep learning as this allows them to be on par with the ever-evolving generation. With each new generation, teachers must study creative ways of teaching these generations. Additionally, it is through students that teachers learn about the latest gadgets, styles, gadgets, and songs.

One more benefit of being a teacher in an elementary school is that he/she has excellent working hours and weekends offs.

Elementary teachers also cultivate personal relationships not only with students but also with parents and peers. Unlike other careers where employees deal with clients daily but never get the opportunity to establish personal relationships with them, the case is different for a teacher in elementary school. This type of connection is vital as it enables teachers to keep track of their students even as they advance in their education and eventually in their careers. In addition to the establishment of personal relationships, teachers also get to enjoy twelve weeks of vacation on an annual basis.

And the final advantage of a career in elementary teaching is that these teachers rarely experience dull moments while going about their duties. Unlike other professions, such as factory jobs that are repetitive, teachers never have two similar days. Whereas repetitive jobs are monotonous and boring, the case is different for teaching positions as they are always exciting.

Elementary teachers play an essential role in the life of students, and this is because they are the individuals that establish a solid foundation for the students. With a solid foundation in education, these students are expected to excel in their learning and eventually in their careers. Although some people think that being a primary school teacher can be quite frustrating and exhausting and that the salary is low, I still believe that there are actually many more benefits to this profession.
