Introduction
The aspects of mortality and morbidity from the perspective of socio economic position of the population are among the most burning issues of the public healthcare. Originally, the link between socioeconomic position and the level of morbidity is evident, consequently, the necessity to study these issues is of particular importance for the public health structures. The aim of this paper is to critically analyze the research by Najman et.al (2006), which is focused mainly on the aspects of disadvantages in socio economic position of the population and the changes in the public health situation, as well as the changes in health risk behaviors.
Analysis
The research paper is mainly aimed at confirming the notion that people of lower socioeconomic position are more subjected to increased morbidity and mortality rates. Najman et.al (2006) It is explained by the fact that these people are subjected to health risk behaviors more often, and the statistical data on the matters of health risk behavior is the solid basis for this aspect of public health.
Originally, the methods, used for the analysis of risk behavior presupposes the use of the data, provided in national surveys. In spite of the fact that the latest data was obtained in year 2001, it does not influence the surveys essentially, as the socioeconomic positions and the behavioral habits of the population did not change. Moreover, in accordance with the results, the health risk behavior rates tend to increase. Especially this tendency associated with the obesity rates and alcohol consumption.
A special emphasis is made on physical activity. On the one hand, people of lower socio economic status rarely participate in physical activities aimed at strengthening health. Nevertheless, these people often have jobs associated with extensive physical activity, standing work or walking. This aspect has not been regarded in details in this work, as independently on the physical activity caused by job requirements, these people do not participate in health oriented physical activity.
Considering the possible changes in the lifestyle of the Australian citizens, it should be emphasized that the necessity mind their health issues has not been stated. Risk health activities and physical activities are the important part of the public health theory, nevertheless, there is strong necessity to analyze people’s awareness on the health issues and their participation in health care trainings. Taking into consideration these issues would make the research full and completed. Nevertheless, the researchers made a particular emphasis on physical aspects of public health, and its dependence on the matters of socio economic position. Najman et.al (2006)
The discussion part, which is aimed at interpreting and analyzing the data gained for the research, is based on the public health policy in Australia, and require positioning from several perspectives. Thus, the results might be interpreted from the position of WHO policies and global practices of public health. In the light of this statement, it should be emphasized that the actual values of this approach are explained by the fact that researchers needed the solid national position for analyzing the results of the national survey.
Conclusion
The entire research is based on the important aspects of the public health approaches, used for the evaluation of the national health issues through the prism of socioeconomic positions of the population. The topic is rather important, nevertheless, the results should be regarded from several other perspectives.
