Importance of the Topic
Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) have a significant role to play in every healthcare setting. APNs should empower and enable their clients to achieve the best health outcomes. The targeted topic for this discussion is Chlamydia trachomatis. Hammerschlag (2011) defines “Chlamydia trachomatis as a gram-negative bacterium that causes different sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in different parts of the world” (p. 100). This bacterium has been observed “to infect different parts such as the urethra, cervix, and rectum” (Pellowe & Pratt, 2006, p. 18). It also causes a disease known as Chlamydia. According to Miller (2006), the bacterium can attack non-genital parts such as the eyes and lungs. This fact explains why the bacterium is one of the leading causes of blindness in many children.
The proposed topic offers new opportunities and competencies that can support the health outcomes of many women. The suggestions presented can be used to produce the best health promotion models (Villegas, Camacho, Sorlozano, Rojas, & Gutierrez, 2008). Appropriate prevention practices can also be designed in order to reduce the rate of infection. Such measures will also control the major health problems associated with this microorganism. I am interested in this topic because it can empower more women (Karnath, 2009). The targeted women will use the presented ideas to transform their health behaviors. New health practices such as “washing hands with soap, bathing regularly, engaging in exercises, and promoting the best preventative measures will be proposed to reduce the prevalence of this bacterium” (Miller, 2006, p. 1413).
Targeted Questions
I have identified the following two questions to support this topic. I will use the questions to come up with proper ideas and practices. Such ideas will encourage more women to embrace the best health practices (Villegas et al., 2008).
-
What is the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis among women?
-
How can women win the fight against Chlamydia trachomatis?
Relevance of the Questions
Statistics show that over 80 million people in the world have eye infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis (Rours et al., 2008). That being the case, women should be sensitized about the best preventive measures to deal with this bacterium. The above questions will make it easier for me to deliver evidence-based facts to my readers. The targeted women will understand how Chlamydia trachomatis continues to affect more communities in the world. This knowledge will make it possible for women to organize new campaigns that can deal with this problem.
The second question will identify the best measures towards winning the war against Chlamydia trachomatis. For instance, I will encourage women to embrace different clinical tests. Infected people should also get the best treatment for the bacterium and other STIs. I will also “inform more women about the best drugs and treatment regimes depending on the infected site or age” (Hammerschlag, 2011, p. 101). Treated patients should also encourage their sexual partners to get appropriate medication. The important goal is to win the fight against Chlamydia and other STIs.
Conclusion
The proposed topic will present useful insights and ideas to more women. The targeted women will understand the clinical issues associated with Chlamydia trachomatis. They will also understand the major implications and problems arising from Chlamydia. The knowledge will make it possible for more communities to develop proper health promotion models (Miller, 2006). These suggestions will make it easier for women to deal with Chlamydia trachomatis.
