The award of my DNP at the South University, College of Nursing, Savannah, Georgia, marked the height of my nursing training. My DNP Evidence-Based Project on Reducing Recurrence of UTI in Older Adults in Long-term Care Facilities gave me deep insights into nursing practice. Before my DNP, my passion for quality patient care led me to join South University, Royal Palm Beach, Florida, to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing –A Family Nurse Practitioner. My postgraduate thesis on Type II Diabetes in African American Men immensely reinforced my undergraduate studies. My desire to make a positive impact in the nursing field drove me to undertake a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Phoenix, Miramar, Florida. My entry point into nursing training was through my Associate Degree in Nursing at Miami-Dade College, Miami, Florida.
My professional experience commenced with community service and volunteer work with the Zion Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Miami. I fruitfully organized annual community medical services and health fairs. Later, for four years, I served forty hours per week as an LPN at The Palace within Kendall Nursing Home and Rehab in Miami, Florida. I competently worked with RNs to provide geriatric patients with quality care. Afterward, for three years, I was deployed at Parkway Hospital and Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida, working forty hours a week as an RN in critical care. I offered quality care to patients in critical condition, conducted a physical assessment of the sick, and developed care plans.
Between April 2003 and December 2004, I was employed at University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac, Florida, as an RN in the ICU. I worked for forty hours a week, providing optimal care for patients in the hospital’s ICU wing. I immensely helped physicians with minor procedures, including arterial line insertions, Quinton catheters, and endotracheal intubation, among others. I swiftly responded to rapid response emergencies within the facility and monitored persons with pain management devices and patients’ conditions after medical procedures. As part of an interdisciplinary team, I strongly advocated for patients through case management and social work.
From February 2005 to January 2008, I worked forty hours per week at Aventura General Hospital in Aventura, Florida, as an RN, ICU step-down. I effectively managed patients suffering from severe conditions such as hemorrhage and acute stroke. I keenly monitored patients placed on PCA pumps, drips, as well as PICC and CVP lines. For five years before joining the hospital, I worked forty-eight hours a week as an RN at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida. At the facility’s 56-bed Intermediate Care/Tele Unit, I competently supervised certified nursing assistants. I expertly developed and reviewed health care plans, as well as managed all renal, diabetic, hypertensive, and cardiac patients.
More recently, between January 2015 and January 2016, I worked forty hours a week as an RN Telemetry/ER Overflow at the Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, Florida. At the facility, I delivered primary optimal nursing care to sick persons with intermediate/telemetry/ER overflow. I heartily assisted patients with personal and cultural needs that are linked to their well-being. I dutifully prepared and applied nursing plans of care based on the aforementioned needs. I successfully initiated therapeutic interventions to restore, promote and maintain health and used the Epic system for accurate and efficient nursing documentation.
My robust training and long-standing nursing experience have earned me multiple accreditations. At the core of licensure are public safety and a need for minimal aptitude in a group of nursing skills that licensed nurses should possess to proficiently provide quality care for a specified category of practice (Roux & Halstead, 2018). I have licensures and certifications from the Florida Board of Nursing Licensure which has certified me as both an RN and an APRN. Further, I am an approved FNP-BC by ANCC. I am proud to be certified by AANP as an FNP-C as well as BLS and recognized by both ACLS and PALS. The endorsements keep me a highly motivated, personable, and dependable professional with a strong passion for quality healthcare.
