Introduction

Strategic planning involves looking into an organization’s future and identifying issues and trends to align it with its competitors in the healthcare industry. The establishment of a proper strategic plan enables a firm to remain competitive while also ensuring consumer satisfaction. The company chosen for study is Banner Healthcare, an internationally recognized institute that offers specialized medical care, mobile, and private health plans. It was founded in 1999 to provide emergency and hospital care, surgery, and rehabilitation services (Glasgow et al., 2019). The Banner is the largest health care system based in the United States, with its headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. The organization is non-profit because it provides medical care services to communities. This paper aims at expounding on a strategic plan for Banner Healthcare.

Main body

Banner Health’s strategic planning has effectively prepared it to meet its customers’ needs. Its facilities and mode of operation make it ready to tackle any issues that might arise in the future. The company is equipped to address future medical concerns through partnerships with comprehensive cancer centers and medical research and equipment distribution companies, such as Philips (Glasgow et al., 2019). The organization also cooperates with other systems to obtain ambulatory services that keep medical records for its outpatient facilities. Additionally, the firm invests profit in procuring new hospital beds, clinical facilities, new technological services, and replacing existing equipment and facilities to benefit patients (Glasgow et al., 2019). It has enabled the facility to be ahead of its competitors in the aspect of business readiness.

Furthermore, the institute launched mergers with associations to upgrade and replace its aging equipment and facilities. Such decisions have enabled the organization to improve its knowledge of academic medicine to upgrade the quality of healthcare. Banner has also implemented telemedicine, which is the use of technology to monitor patients from miles away (Glasgow et al., 2019). Such practices predict the length of stay and decrease mortality rates. Banner has managed to achieve consumer satisfaction through improving its various services and forming partnerships, thus making it ready to meet the patients’ needs.

Banner requires a strategic blueprint to fulfill its objectives and address the strategic concerns on network growth, nurse staffing, resource management, and patient satisfaction. Firstly, there is a need for conducting external and internal analysis. It will help Banner improve its network growth by being aware of organizations they interact with, assigning resources, recruiting professional staff, and improving the services’ quality according to the patient feedback. Network growth is vital for any organization. It will enable an enterprise to strategically plan its operation to meet consumer demand and form partnerships with other health providers, thus improving its operations and services.

Creating awareness among patients about their conditions and staff will guarantee improved consumer-employee relations. The nursing staff will handle every patient appropriately and offer relevant services to every consumer. Conducting intense employee training and providing the necessary skills to maintain equipment and facilities will enable the organization to improve every consumer’s services. Internal assessment of employee relations to consumers is also vital despite having a consistent market share and strong policies (Glasgow et al., 2019). The institute’s focus on awareness will help the company realize an all-rounded organization as the employees will understand their consumers and relevant services to its consumers. Moreover, creating awareness among patients will boost their confidence in the firm’s healthcare system and attract new customers.

The third strategy is the evaluation, which helps the staff conduct self-assessment and correct their shortcomings while maintaining and sharpening their skills and professionalism. It gives the patients the insight to understand their conditions and how to manage them. The establishment should also assess and evaluate how to interact with other organizations (Glasgow et al., 2019). Such actions will ensure the company has a strong relationship with its environment, creating friendly surroundings for its consumers. The evaluation approach will enable the company to develop an effective relationship between its management, employees, partners, and consumers, thus remaining competitive within the healthcare industry due to employee, consumer, and partner loyalty. Therefore, the various strategies will enable the organization to handle the various concerns it has currently faced.

Organizational structure plays an important role in fulfilling the strategic plan of any network. However, if negative factors affect the structure, it may lead to a delay in achieving the goals. For instance, the sudden or unexpected downturn of employees and employers will lead to unrest among individuals in the workplace, affecting their effectiveness and professionalism. Leadership changes also make employees develop a new attitude towards their new bosses. In this case, some employees will face difficulties embracing the new policies introduced by the newly appointed bosses (Glasgow et al., 2019). Banner’s administration should ensure it has an inclusive and well-structured company structure to maintain steady communication between the management and employees.

The organization should implement the Baldrige Framework model to provide quality health care. The model emphasizes the importance of innovation to develop modern ways to solve problems encountered (Glasgow et al., 2019). Banner Healthcare should embrace current technological inventions to improve and protect their patients’ lives and propel it towards their mission and vision, making health care easier to access. The model states the importance of stable leadership, which that banner should consider while making decisions (Glasgow et al., 2019). Moreover, the top management should ensure individual motivation in the organization since it creates a sense of believability among individuals, thus leading to better performance.

The model further states the importance of self-assessment for organizations. In this case, Banner Healthcare should assess its in-house situation, thus learning its staffs’ weaknesses and strengths. As such, the company will assess and adopt new ways to tackle the challenges they face within the healthcare environment. The Baldrige model will enable Banner to improve its internal environment without external influence while considering an open discussion during policy creation (Glasgow et al., 2019). Banner’s exponential growth means that the organization develops quickly over a short period. However, this can cause a significant challenge for the organization to grow in the healthcare industry as rapid growth affects its implementation process. Excessive confidence that a firm’s network will grow unexpectedly discourages employees and resource managers from performing their duties, affecting consumer satisfaction (Glasgow et al., 2019). Banner should therefore focus on gradual growth through proper implementation of strategic ideas in the Baldrige Frameworks theory through staff training.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is crucial to state that any organization’s evaluation is important for its growth. Strategic planning and evaluation help a company structure its internal and external operations and assess its strengths and weaknesses, thus ensuring productivity. Moreover, a strategic plot will enable a firm to beware of its goals. Objectives are the factors that influence an organization’s productivity and profitability; thus, every organization needs an effectively implemented approach to achieve profitability and market share in the competitive business world. The paper has tried to expound on the importance of strategic planning in the healthcare industry. However, further analysis of Banner’s operations within its operational market will help its management adopt a new approach, enabling the organization to remain competitive in the health industry.
