Assignment Type:
Essay (any type)
Pages/Words:
3.7 pages / 1100 words (Double spacing)
Assignment Topic:
Describe how a social welfare policy is affected by various historical, social, economic and political elements
Instructions
In your textbook, the authors describe how social welfare policies are affected by various historical, social, economic and political elements.
Choose a single social welfare policy. Two possible options for this assignment include the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP – formerly known as Food Stamps) or Medicaid Expansion in the state of Arkansas (part of the PPACA). If you choose one of these two options, there are folders with additional information on these policies. These folders can be found in the tab on Blackboard that is labeled “Helpful Links & Articles for Final Paper.” You may, of course, use these resources, however they must be cited correctly (according to APA) in-text and in your reference page. This will require you to use your APA resources; do not call upon the instructor to tell you how to cite resources. If you wish to choose a different policy for this assignment, please email me in advance to be sure it is appropriate. Be sure to be specific when identifying the policy you are covering in your paper.
In APA Style, please provide an introduction followed by a brief description of your policy. In 3-5 typed pages, describe the major historical, social, economic and political elements that have shaped the policy that you have chosen. Be sure to make a chronologically informed, comprehensive connection between each element and specifically how it has shaped these aspects of the social welfare policy you have chosen. You will need to use a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources aside from your textbook for this paper. Be sure to review the syllabus for the expected format for all papers as well as the grading rubric for the final paper.
