Introduction

Engineering projects play a significant role in the general development of technology in the modern world. Working on the specific task helps evaluate diverse spheres of life, starting from science and finishing with business branches. This essay will cover scientific and engineering methods used in the project called “Expert in Teams,” and it will explain all aspects that support this plan’s success. Moreover, the ethical side will be evaluated based on deductive, inductive, and abductive reasoning. The use of these important terms will be explained in the examples related to the Danfoss organization.

Scientific Methodology

The scientific method supports and proves the knowledge gained by people since the beginning of the development of science. It includes five main processes which professionals always consider. Observation, hypothesis, experimentation, data analysis, and conclusion (Gutting, 2017). Firstly, researchers observe the problem they want to solve, and if the answer is obvious, deeper analyses are conducted to find out expanded information. Secondly, before conducting a research program, it is important to predict possible outcomes of the situation. The hypothesis is created based on used theories, and scientists rarely suggest their points of view (Gutting, 2017). Thirdly, experiments are oriented to either prove or refute proposed hypotheses by scientists and provide a closer answer to the observed question. Experiments are conducted under strict regulations, which make the outcomes more realistic. Additionally, the next step of collecting data can be presented in graphs and tables to create a visual representation better for readers. This strategy contains the information gained from the first step of scientific methodology named observation. Lastly, in the conclusion section, professional scientists state approved results and future topics to be discussed.

Engineering Methodology

The engineering method can be used in the creation of successful projects. This idea is based on previous experiments and outcomes. Professional engineers develop new inventions to expand existing (Buede and Miller, 2016). This method aims to present a deeper knowledge of specific techniques and tools used in the research. Compared to scientific methodology, new questions are not usually raised. However, scientists can evaluate important engineering methods in their research and prove them based on the scientific idea. It is crucial to understand the main difference between these definitions. Consequently, by using these two strategies, scientists can create a better vision of their inventions, and both of the ideas can be used in the “Expert in Teams” project.

Scientific Method Applied

All steps of the scientific methodology can define the progress of the project. Before starting working in a team, it was crucial to decide the main aspects of the work and create a plan for further development. We have evaluated Danfoss and determined whether a new hydraulic steering unit would successfully integrate the organization. When the work took place, we started experimenting with the system and adjusting needed changes to receive the best version of the mechanism. Changes at each stage were recorded and evaluated to make sure that the next inventions would take less time and resources to be produced. Critical analyses of the system helped us produce a short and significant conclusion of the product. This final step may help us to receive loyalty from other companies when they see the invention for Danfoss. The ethical side became a vulnerable part of the process as it is important to stay wise in decision-making at every stage of the work.

Deductive Reasoning

Logical reasoning is considered one of the key technologies that led to the success of the “Expert in Teams” project. This idea provides professionals with the ability to logically evaluate crucial concepts of the work and correctly solve problems using the right words. The reasoning consists of three main parts called deductive, inductive, and abductive (Gampa et al., 2019). Such projects include all types, and they have an equal influence. For instance, deductive reasoning might help state such a hypothesis as the ease of using a hydraulic system. This type does not state a new fact but assists in proving the existing theories. Experts should use this reasoning to prove their thoughts, and there should not be any opposite idea. A small concern leads to the next types of reasoning responsible for different aspects of any theory.

Inductive Reasoning

Controversially, inductive reasoning may not always state correct facts. This idea states that the generalization of the hypothesis should also take place while creating any type of innovation (Gampa et al., 2019). Even though many observations might be conducted, the outcome rarely ensures experts. Scientists may find it easier to find the positive and negative sides of their technologies and systems by taking a risk. People usually make predictions and create new theories based on long and structured observations. For example, a hydraulic steering unit might not be acceptable by the Danfoss company for any reason. Such an outcome cannot be 100% predicted, and such nuance should not be underestimated.

Abductive Reasoning

Abductive reasoning is close to inductive, and sometimes they might work as one united theory. Compared to deductive reasoning, these two types are not logical and are based on unproven theories. Nevertheless, some experts consider that there is still a difference that others should deeply analyze while working on their projects (Gampa et al., 2019). This theory does not have any specific proof, and all suggestions are made based on visual probabilities. For some innovations, it might be considered as a first impression of the buyer or supplier. For example, the hydraulic mechanism can be easily used, and people tend to buy systems with this feature. Consequently, the organization should consider the fact that people appreciate hydraulic mechanisms and introduce it to innovations. The outcome of this reasoning is usually positive, and suggested hypotheses at the beginning of research can be proved. Unlike other types of reasoning, the abductive one is not widely used in the building process of other engineering technologies.

Conclusion

To conclude everything that has been stated so far, a complicated study of engineering requires expanding knowledge in diverse aspects of life. Even though it is a practical sphere, some theory knowledge plays a significant part in producing the best outcome. The “Expert in Teams” project includes various methodologies defined by deductive, inductive, and abductive reasoning. To ensure that the final presentation of the result is correct and does not have any better alternatives, it is important to go through all scientific method steps. In collaboration with engineering methods, new ideas and theories become approved and deeply analyzed for further studies. The key aspects that have been evaluated while constructing the hydraulic system for the Danfoss organization are the need for mechanism and potentiality in the market. When every discussed question was answered, there were no doubts about the usefulness of the project and future success.
