Funding Allocation
Public health education programs receive funding throughout the year from donor organizations or obtained grants. Once the funds are received, allocations must be determined. Public health educators should understand how to allocate funding according to their strategic financial plan, operating, and capital budgets.
For this assignment, you are the education director of a rural public health department with funding from a $150,000 grant. The grant has no restrictions for use. You will create a 3-page executive summary of the proposed allocation plan based on your strategic financial plan, operating, and capital budgets to present to the board of directors for approval.
Step 1. Reflect
Reflect on the previously submitted financial strategic plan (Module 6) and operating and capital budgets (Module 7).
Step 2. Identify
Identify at least 5 projects or expenditures appropriate for the use of the obtained grant funding.
Step 3. Rank
Recognizing possible budget overruns and unforeseen expenditures, rank the projects or expenditures you identified in Step 2 from the highest priority to the lowest priority. Include a rationale for the rank of each item.
Step 4. Propose
Propose your allocation plan in a 3-page executive summary. Include the ranking, rationale, and cost for each proposed allocation item along with an APA-formatted title page and reference page. Utilize section headings to make your executive summary easy to follow.
You may consult the resources on the Learning Objects page for pointers in writing an executive summary.
Step 5. Submit
Submit your APA-formatted document to include a title page, 3-page executive summary, and a reference page.
