A personal vision statement* is a summary of your ultimate career goal that includes reflection on your strengths and values and how your abilities and beliefs, skills and attributes can make a positive impact. The purpose of this assignment is to write a comprehensive paper that integrates leadership concepts and advanced nursing practice roles with a personal vision for future work that includes your ideas to transform practice. Developing a clear career statement can help establish a path toward a final goal that helps you navigate career challenges and professional success.
Begin by identifying your personal strengths. What are your skills and abilities? What are your leadership strengths? How will you use these skills, abilities, and strengths in an advanced nursing practice role? Knowing your personal strengths, leadership skills, abilities, and strengths and how to apply them will help you to set and to achieve your goals.
Think about your values, what is important to you? Determining your core values is a key step in developing your vision statement. Vision rests on a firm foundation of values and mission or purpose. The following questions may be helpful for you to identify your core values:
·      Is it important that your work gives back to society?
·      Are you motivated by inspiring others?
·      How do you take responsibility for your own actions?
·      How do you prioritize work-life balance?
What issue are you considering for your DNP Project? How can your personal abilities and beliefs help to address this issue? How would your project enhance practice? The following questions may be helpful for you to think about as you consider answers to these questions:
·      What issues are you passionate about?
·      Are there issues that your personal strengths are particularly well-suited to tackling?
·      Are there certain issues that fit well with your core values?
What you envision now in this course may not be what you ultimately do for your project. Your vision and plan at this point are initial steps towards developing your DNP Project. This assignment requires students to integrate information from multiple sources: Reflecting on your strengths and your personal values; thinking about the patients or students you serve and what you can offer in your role as an advanced practice nurse.
