The Vietnam War was vital for America in 1968 because the events shocked all Americans. As a result, resistance to aggression only increased. The bitterness of the parties grew, and the war turned into mutual destruction. The United States spent a lot of effort to achieve its goals in the war. Many people were injured and killed, and much military equipment was destroyed. At the end of 1968, the South Vietnam People’s Liberation Armed Forces carried out a new offensive, after which the US-Saigon troops went mainly on the defensive (Mai, 2021). These events significantly influenced the mood of the people in the United States. The historical role of a certain person who lived in the United States at that time could be reduced to the fact that a person went out to protest against the war. This movement significantly defined and changed the lives of people by uniting them.
Ground groups significantly influenced the political and military situation. The advance of the Vietnamese army on them was significant enough for the groups to stop their advance. This moment can be called a turning point in the war, leading to further escalation. However, in addition to this, these actions led to increased rallies for peace against the backdrop of news of heavy losses. For a person who lived in that era, the escalation of the war, especially the events that took place in 1968, had sad consequences. This affected both economic prosperity due to inflation and a drop in morale. Faith in the president and the army and its strength has been significantly shaken.
As a result, the country suffered heavy losses and killed many soldiers since that war. The expansion of the region of action of hostilities significantly accelerated the adverse effect. In addition, there is a moral factor indicating that the troops were involved in vain. Such a policy did not allow the states to expand their spheres of influence. Instead of this, the people finally became convinced that the government needed to be changed. This could lead to a de-escalation of the conflict and thus prolong the war for years to come. Taking into account many of the negative factors listed above, it can be concluded that the position of peace support for an American citizen in 1968 was more correct. Thus, the war’s end could save the president’s career and stabilize the economy.
