The video “The Blue Zones of Happiness” shows a lecture read by an American explorer, Dan Buettner. Being a National Geographic Fellow and public speaker, he is the founder of the so-called “Blue Zones.” These zones are the areas where the average life expectancy is much higher than in other regions around the world. In the video, Buettner talks about three zones- Singapore, Costa Rica, and Denmark. The author explains the reasons for people’s happiness in each country. Based on the knowledge gained during his traveling to these locations, he advises what people should do to be happy and live longer.
To reveal the main factors that make people feel happy, Buettner examines each country separately. Thus, in Singapore, the happiness of the population is ensured by the lowest level of corruption, a clean environment, and the fact that all citizens can afford to buy their own houses. Costa Rica is the country with the highest literacy rate in Central America. Every person in Costa Rica has the right to be seen by a health ambassador once a year. The ambassadors measure blood pressure, examine the overall health conditions of individuals, and even check refrigerators to advise what people should or should not eat. In Denmark, free education and social trust are the main factors of happiness.
In addition, Buettner reveals generic factors of human happiness, such as Gross Domestic Products rate, Healthy Life Expectancy, generosity, tolerance, and social trusting. The most important information was conveyed at the end of the video, where Buettner uncovers the secrets of happiness. He asserts that there are six ways that lead to a happy life. They include meditation, investing in financial security, the opportunity to buy a house, social networks, having a best friend at work, and living in a prosperous country.
