The article to be analyzed in this paper is “Organizational socialization in public administration research: A systematic review and directions for future research” by Moyson et al. The authors present a systematic qualitative review of the articles related to the topic of organizational socialization, comparing the findings to determine the extent of its effects. It is a descriptive research that uses secondary data to evaluate the direction of studies related to the topic.

The authors use the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach to analyze the contents of 58 studies regarding organizational socialization. The articles were separated into categories based on the place of organizational socialization in their context and the types of data that were used. The papers from each category were analyzed to determine the importance of the interaction between an organization and its new member.

In conclusion, the paper describes what methods and processes that aim to help with newcomers’ adaptation lack representation in studies and, more importantly, in organizations. The article shows the effects of organizational socialization on the integration of new members of a company. The examination reveals the lack of attention to socialization, including mentorship, in selected studies while highlighting the fact that the efforts of organizations to incorporate newcomers are essential (Moyson et al., 2017). I chose to use this article in my research since it expands on the topic of guidance of newcomers by highlighting the combined results of multiple studies related to this challenge. Its subject allows me to link the lack of mentorship of African American women with the unique challenges they face within an organization.
