There are six major questions that can be addressed in developmental psychology. One of the most interesting themes is the role of nature in the development of child psychology. The reason is that I was always excited about how some people are so good at some things. The main question I was asking myself was if it is a talent, something that people get from nature like genetics, or it is a skill that can be learned regardless of the genes of the person. The second theme that I am curious about is the sociocultural aspect of developmental psychology. There are various cultures and social environments that different children experience. The interesting thing is that people from every culture have their own advantages and disadvantages. What makes the theme attractive is the cultural and traditional features that can positively or negatively contribute to the development of the child.
The effective way to gather information about children is via surveys including variables. One of the basics of research methodology in developmental psychology is the variables and their relationship. Most of the research work is based on finding out how one variable is influencing or not influencing the other variable. One of the disadvantages of the method is that some independent variable might be correlated. Then, there comes the second part of the research, which is the scale of measurements of the variables (Bukatko and Daehler 39). It is an important part since the scale of the measurements directly determines the outcomes of the research. The reliability of the research is a key factor since it validates the results of the work. The experiments are only the validation of the hypothesis of the research work. Hence, the experimental results must be repeatable under the same conditions. I think it is an important part of any research, which makes sure that the results of the work are reliable.
