The following charts are obtained from the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) data that is stored on the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) website. The information revolves around rates of property and violent crimes in the U.S. over a period of 20 years. Moreover, it constitutes a further analysis into the rates of the types of the various property and violent crimes.

The overall crime rates in the U.S. have decreased over the years.

The violent crime rate has been relatively stable throughout the years, while there has been a reduction in the trend of property crime rates.

There have been overall higher property crime rates as compared to the violent crime rates from 1997 to 2016.

The rate of aggravated assault is highest, followed by robbery, then rape, and lastly, murder and non-negligent manslaughter.

Larceny is the highest, followed by burglary and then motor vehicle theft.
