Abstract
The paper provides reasons for creating a global training and development plan for Tenet Healthcare Corporation. The description of the organization is included, as well as countries of business and the company’s mission. Two identified cultural and diversity issues are the training of the expatriate management and diverse staff and the development of the unified training program that can be implemented in different regions where the company operates.
Introduction
The field of healthcare services is important to be discussed in the context of the culture, globalization, and diversity issues. Tenet Healthcare Corporation is a multinational company headquartered in Texas, the United States, and providing care in the United Kingdom. The company promotes diversity among its employees and supports the exchange of experience among professionals working in the United States and Britain. To address the cultural and diversity issues in Tenet, it is necessary to propose an effective training and development plan that is based on the analysis of the current situation in the company according to the ADDIE model.
Describe the Chosen Organization and the Reason for Creating a Global Training and Development Plan. Include an overview of the Organization’s Industry, Mission, Countries of Business, Organizational Structure, Leadership, and Current Training
Tenet Healthcare Corporation is one of the largest multinational healthcare services providers in North America and Europe. The number of employees in Tenet is more than 130 thousand people, who have different backgrounds. The company serves the needs of diverse populations in the United States and Britain, providing primary care and acute care. Therefore, the reason for creating the development plan is to train expatriate managers and diverse employees on how to cooperate with each other, exchange the experience, and improve services for patients with a focus on the diversity aspect.
The development of the plan is correlated with the Tenet’s mission to “help people live happier, healthier lives” (Tenet Healthcare Corporation, 2016, para. 2). Tenet’s organizational structure is based on the necessity to lead a variety of brands and more than four hundred healthcare centers, facilities, and local companies in fourteen states. In Tenet, Trevor Fetter performs as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and Mark Montoney is Chief Medical Officer. There are also many regional managers administering facilities locally. The current training includes sessions based on the ethics and compliance program.
Identify at Least Two Current Cultural, Global, or Diversity Issues or Trends in or Affecting the Organization
The current cultural and diversity issues that affect operations of Tenet in the United States and Britain include problems associated with the expatriate management and the necessity of developing the single training program that addresses the issue of diversity among the staff in order to improve the cooperation of specialists (Hutchins & Burke, 2008; McClay & Irwin, 2008). The problem is in the fact that the number of diverse employees in Tenet facilities in both countries increases annually, especially under the impact of the recent migration trends in Europe and North America. The globalization associated with the problematic expatriate management and diversity of the staff are the main issues affecting the organization in terms of global development.
Summarize the Issues That Are Important to Explore or Consider in Developing the Global Training and Development Plan Based on the Information Provided in A and B
While focusing on the issues to consider in relation to Tenet and the proposed training and development plan, it is necessary to pay more attention to training diverse employees and expatriate leaders. The purpose is to educate them on how to collaborate, address the cultural and language barriers, and provide high-quality care to meet the interests of diverse patients (Homan, Buengeler, Eckhoff, Van Ginkel, & Voelpel, 2015; Jackson & Stoneman, 2013). These aspects are important to be reflected in the plan to ensure that the proposed variant can be implemented in the multinational corporation and its facilities regardless of the location.
Conclusion
The training and development plan will be proposed depending on the analysis of the current issues affecting the development of Tenet and their connection with the company’s mission and operations. The first issue that should be addressed with the help of the training is the improvement of the expatriate management. The other issue is the development of the unified training program for different regions to set clear ethical and diversity standards.
