Nursing leadership ensures every patient gets quality care. I have portrayed the best leadership traits during my professional practice. My leadership style portrays both delegative and participative approaches. I am a competent leader who works with my patients and nurses. Team leadership is a participative approach that encourages every person to be part of the decision-making process. Every leader “should mentor, motivate, encourage, and support every person in a healthcare setting” (Sherman, Bishop, Eggenberger, & Karden, 2007, p. 86). I always use my participative approach to support my employees and partners. The approach is critical to maintaining the highest level of performance.
Graduate-level nurses should possess certain leadership attributes. Leadership is the first approach towards better care to different patients. Graduate-level caregivers and nurses should be articulate communicators. The leadership strength will promote interaction at the healthcare facility. Individuals should embrace new leadership skills such as proper decision-making and problem-solving abilities. The nurse should be ready to work with different teams. These nurses should also be critical thinkers (Sherman et al., 2007). The leadership approach will ensure every graduate-level nurse supports the health needs of his or her patients. Nurses should also portray the best values such as respect, honor, value, and confidence.
The above leadership attributes are critical in every healthcare organization. The skills will also support my personal leadership style. My leadership traits will help me throughout my graduate nursing practice. I am an advocate for superior care. I am also a collaborator. The above strengths encourage me to form new nursing teams. I also have good mentorship skills. I have always been a role model. My communication skills and risk-taking abilities will always support my nursing process. I have always made competent decisions in order to address the health needs of my patients (Sherman et al., 2007). My future goal is to improve my nursing skills. Such skills can make every leader successful. Nursing leadership is incomplete without most of these skills. A nurse leader should support the expectations of his or her practitioners.
Learning is always a continuous practice. I will achieve these goals through continued practice and learning. I will embrace the art of critical thinking. A critical thinker uses moral reasoning to address every challenge affecting his or her healthcare facility. I will also develop new skills as a visionary leader. The practice will increase my skills and professional goals. I also need to develop my problem-solving strategies. I am also planning to support my traits as a team player. These leadership competencies will always make my healthcare facility successful. I will also “develop a new participative strategy” (Sherman et al., 2007, p. 88). The next goal is to advance my administrative competencies and clinical expertise. These skills will make a competent leader.
According to Curtis, Vries, and Sheerin (2011, p. 307) “nursing leadership is a critical practice that calls for responsibility and commitment in order to influence the practice atmosphere”. This quote explains why every physician should embrace the best leadership skills. My future goal is to read widely in order to support the health needs of my patient. I will mentor every member of my team. I will also encourage every nurse to be part of the leadership practice. This approach is critical because every person has something to deliver (Curtis et al., 2011). My leadership approach will make me a competent provider of quality care.
