A role model is a person we look up to. It is a person who inspires us and profoundly impacts our lives. This person has guided me and is still guiding me in the right direction. This person is my father who has prevented me from deviating from my path. My father is an example of pure hard work and dedication. He has made it through life with many difficulties and yeah everyone has difficulties but he never gave up and not many people can say that.

My father was born in Mexico and comes from a very poor family. Like I’ve said before, he had difficulties in life such as when his parents got divorced and he had to go live with his father. His father had a lot of money but never gave any to his family. My father had no food at home and that made him not want to live with my grandfather. By leaving home at the age of 17, he had nowhere to give and this resulted in him living in a tree. When my father always tells me this, I couldn’t imagine myself living in a tree at the age of 18. While still living in a tree my father finished high school and got into college. One of his father’s friends was a general doctor at the time and gave my dad a job. Soon after this my father met my mom and about 4 years later at the age of 25, my mom was pregnant with my older brother. To fast forward, basically, my mom, dad, and brother came to the United States leaving everything they had in Mexico.

They sacrificed their lives for my siblings and me to come to the United States (The land of Opportunity). They came to the United States not knowing one bit of English. My dad left all of his dreams of being a doctor in Mexico. After five years I was born and at this time my dad worked in construction. This was a tough job and we would barely see him throughout the week. After eight years my sister was born and my dad left construction to make his own lawn care company. After about a year we finally moved to our own house. At present-day today, my dad is still working in his lawn care company with only one other person. I want to be just like my father (but in a female version)and do for my kids the way he took care of my siblings and me. My dad is like a handyman at our house. If something breaks or something happens he will try to do anything to fix it. Maybe he can’t fix everything but he tries. I’ve always thought my father was really harsh with me but now I understand it was for a reason. We are a low-income family but my father makes everything possible for us to have a better life than he did. My father is the most hardworking and amazing dad. He made me strive to become a better person and did everything he could to give me a better future. I couldn’t ask for a better role model and most importantly couldn’t ask for a better father either.
