Brutus and Anthony use pathos ethos and logos in their speeches. Logos is the logic for the reason that they use it. Pathos is the feeling and emotion that they use in their speeches. Ethos is the credibility and the likability that they use. In Julius Caesar Antony tried to convince the Roman people that Brutus was working with the murders actually gave the better speech because he caught the people’s eyes more. also he used so much more emotion and feelings for Cesar then Brutus did who knew what the crowd wanted to hear.

In Brutus’ speech he used pathos when he said that “If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.” (3.2. 7- 10) Brutus also used pathos when he said “Who is here so vile that will not love his country? If any, speak—for him have I offended. I pause for a reply.”(3.2. 8-12) Next is ethos, Brutus uses ethos in his speech when he said “Believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor that you may believe. Censure me in your wisdom, and awake your senses that you may the better judge.” (3.2. 3-6) Brutus also used ethos when he said “ The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interrèd with their bones. So let it be with Caesar.” (3.2. 15-20) Lastly there is logos, Brutus uses logos in his speech when he said “With this I depart: that, as I slew my best lover for the good of Rome, I have the same dagger for myself when it shall please my country to need my death.” (3.2. 9-12) Brutus also used logos when he said “Good countrymen, let me depart alone. And, for my sake, stay here with Antony. Do grace to Caesar’s corpse, and grace his speech Tending to Caesar’s glories, which Mark Antony By our permission is allowed to make.” (3.2. 20-25)

Moving on to Antony’s speech, was a lot longer and had a lot more details. The first time Antony used pathos in his speech was when he said “ When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept. Ambition should be made of sterner stuff. Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, And Brutus is an honorable man.” (3.2. 90-95) Antony also used pathos when he said “Have patience, gentle friends. I must not read it. 140 It is not meet you know how Caesar loved you. You are not wood, you are not stones, but men.” (3.2. 140-145) Antony used ethos a lot in his speech, here is just one of the many quotes that he used “Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest— For Brutus is an honorable man; So are they all, all honorable men come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral. He was my friend, faithful and just to me.” (3.2. 80-95) Antony also uses ethos when he said “See what a rent the envious Casca made. Through this the well-belovèd Brutus stabbed. And as he plucked his cursèd steel away, Mark how the blood of Caesar followed it, As rushing out of doors, to be resolved.” (3.2. 175-180) Lastly there is logos there were quite a lot of logos in the speech, he is one of them “Good countrymen, let me depart alone. And, for my sake, stay here with Antony. Do grace to Caesar’s corpse, and grace his speech Tending to Caesar’s glories, which Mark Antony By our permission is allowed to make.” (3.2. 65-70) Antony also used logos when he said “And, dying, mention it within their wills, Bequeathing it as a rich legacy Unto their issue.” (3.2. 130-135)

In conclusion Brutus used pathos better because he uses a lot of emotion. He was also speeaking from his heart and it sounded like he was really into it. Antony uses ethos better though. Antony had a lot of people to back him up durning his speech. Antony also used logos better because he had a lot of logic in his speech.
