Technology and social networks occupy an important place in people’s lives and some individuals, bloggers, even combine work and persona life, as it brings them income. In addition, recently, employers have been checking social networks when hiring a person, which is quite a controversial practice. On the one hand, publications on the candidate’s page can show their negative sides that can affect the work, but on the other hand, a person’s personal life may not be reflected in their professional qualities.

For this reason, I believe that privacy is still an important aspect, especially if a person is trying not to disclose and mix their personal and professional information. It is up to workers, employers, and society to draw a clear line between personal and professional to avoid conflicts and unethical practices. For example, an employee can have two social media pages. On one page, all publications should reflect the company’s policy and its opinion, since this professional is its representative. Another personal page should not display work-related information but may express personal views on other issues or have photographs that do not “suit” a person as a professional. For example, a state governor cannot post vacation photos on the work page, but that does not mean they do not lounge by the pool or drink cocktails. Reasonable people understand that any individual, regardless of their job, is, first of all, a person with needs and feelings. However, personal pages should not have offensive or promotional posts, although social networks and laws already prohibit them.

If society learns to distinguish between personal and professional activities, conflicts and injustice in hiring and firing will be eliminated. However, since discrimination based on origin, gender, or religion is still widespread in our society, such a prospect seems distant. For this reason, most people today are forced to control the appropriateness of all their publications to avoid working conflicts, and the development of technologies can lead to meshed personal and professional life.
